Sonicators - MSE

The MSE Soniprep 150 Plus is an improved, digital version of the original Soniprep 150. It is a benchtop ultrasonic disintegrator enclosed in a purpose built chamber to reduce residual noise from sonication.

The Soniprep 150 Plus also has a wattage output, which allows users to measure the wattage being delivered to the probe. There is a range of titanium probes available to satisfy a wide variety of requirements.

The piezoelectric transducer produces vibrations from an electrical input to a level of 93% efficiency. This compares well with magnetostrictive versions which are only 45% efficient.

•New digital display
•Sound-insulated self contained unit
•Range of 3 titanium probes to suit most applications
•High frequency 23KHZ generator with piezoelectric transducer
•99 minute timer with override facility
•Optional process timer unit available
•Optional wattage meter available
•Ideally suited for volumes of 2ml to 100ml plus continuous flow

Ultrasonic Disintegration
The Soniprep 150 Plus transmits sound energy to the medium through high frequency vibration at the tip of an interchangeable probe. The effect of this is to create many series of micro-cavities in the dispersion medium. The rapid alternation of positive and negative pressure produced by the sound waves travelling through the liquid causes these minute gas filled bubbles to disintegrate implosively during the rarefaction phase of the sound pressure wave. This produces intense local shock waves in which the pressure may reach several thousand atmospheres and rapid microstreaming of the liquid around the point of collapse. The intense localised sheer gradients so generated combined, in part, with the transient regions of high pressure, result in the disruptive capabilities of this instrument.

Varied Applications
The Soniprep 150 Plus can be used for a wide variety of applications, but is mainly used for the disintegration, disruption and homogenisation of cells, tissues, spores and bacteria.

Our powerful ultrasonic disintegrator is highly regarded in throughout the world and its uses can encompass the preparation of emulsions, the stimulation of bacterial activity, the dispersion of solids in liquids and the promotion of chemical reactions.

Choice of Probes
The choice of 3 probes covers the needs of most applications. The exponential probe can be used for particularly small volumes down to 2ml and the larger probes can be used for increased volumes or continuous flow applications. A range of tubes and vessels are also available to accommodate samples for the various applications that may be needed. Rubber sealing caps are available if the tubes need to be sealed during the disruption process.

Safety Features
The Soniprep 150 Plus comes with a sound reducing cabinet as standard to help to minimise disturbance near the unit. The frequency of operation has been specially selected to operate at levels higher than those normally audible to the human ear to help maintain minimum noise levels.

The clear door of the Soniprep 150 Plus allows the operator to observe the sample whilst sonication is taking place thus allowance can be made for aerosol production or spillages.

Amplitude Meter
An amplitude meter is positioned at the front of the Soniprep 150 Plus to monitor the probe amplitude. It is calibrated in microns and gives the actual peak to peak movement that is taking place by using the relevant multiplication factor for the desired probe. This gives a more accurate reflection of what the probe is doing, unlike some sonicators which merely give a reading of the power input into the probe. This does not necessarily reflect the optimum power transfer to the sample.

Process Timer Available
The Soniprep 150 Plus comes with a 99 minute timer and an override switch. This allows the operator the opportunity to perform continuous or timed sonication up to 99 minutes. The override switch is particularly useful to the user who wishes to use the continuous flow facility for through flow sonication. The continuous flow feed and exit lines can be accessed to the continuous flow vessel via the apertures present at the rear of the unit.

In addition to the 99 minute timer that is available on the Soniprep 150 Plus, there is a process timer available. This allows the operator the flexibility to accurately time sonication for reproducible results. It also allows the operator the facility to pulse sonication to help build up over a period of time. Pulse times can vary from 1 to 99 seconds and can be controlled in minutes or cycles.

All in all, it can be seen that the Soniprep 150 Plus has become an indispensable item in laboratory ultrasonics by offering a unique blend of facilities. It has gained an enviable reputation, along with other MSE products, for giving long term service combined with excellent long term reliability. These factors combined to make the Soniprep 150 Plus the obvious choice when it comes to laboratory ultrasonic applications.

Automatic rotor identification system
The Harrier range incorporates an automatic rotor identification system. This important feature ensures that the centrifuge recognises the rotor in use and prevents it from being used beyond its safe maximum speed. As the centrifuge identifies the rotor in use, it can also work out the ‘g’ force at any set speed. This means the centrifuge can convert rpm to ‘g’ and vice versa once in use.

Microprocessor controlled induction drive
The Harrier range utilises an induction motor for maintenance free long life operation. This motor has no carbon brushes so not only is there no need for routine maintenance but there is no build-up of carbon dust inside the centrifuge. This makes it suitable for use in clean environments. Microprocessor control combined with the frequency driven motor ensures accurate operation for run to run reproducibility.

Refrigerated version available
The Harrier 18/80R combines all the capabilities of the proven Harrier 15/80 in a refrigerated format. The selectable temperature range is from −90C to +40C and uses CFC–free R134a refrigerant gas. This means that in refrigerant terms, the Harrier 18/80R complies with all the regulations pertaining to the Montreal Protocol. A precool facility allows the bowl to be cooled to the required temperature prior to use.

High speed microtube rotor
The use of the induction motor provides another benefit in that higher rotational speeds can be achieved. This allows the Harrier range to have a maximum speed in excess of 15,000 rpm with the 24 place microtube rotor. The addition of refrigeration in the Harrier 18/80R unit allows the microtube rotor an increase in speed to 18,000 rpm giving a maximum ‘g’ force of 28,980 ‘g. See rotor table for details.

Wide range of accessories available
For routine bench top work, the 4 x 200ml swing out rotor and 200ml sealed buckets are available on the Harrier 15/80. A recent addition on the Harrier 18/80R is the 4 x 200ml windshielded rotor. This uses the same 200ml buckets as used on the Harrier 15/80 but with an increased speed capability of 6,000 rpm giving a maximum g force of 6,466 g. These, combined with a wide range of adaptors, can accommodate most manufacturers’ tubes. As well as the swing out rotor, other angle rotors and specialist rotors are available. Please see tables for details.

Benchtop Centrifuge MSE Mistral 1000

The Mistral 1000 centrifuge represents an economical and simpler to use alternative for the busy laboratory with a limited budget. The control panel has been simplified to encompass situations where non-technical staff may be required to use the centrifuge. All that is needed is to enter parameters of speed and time - nothing could be simpler.

The mainstay of the Mistral 1000 is the 4 x 100ml rotor with the appropriate 100ml trunnions and metal buckets. The 100ml metal buckets can be provided with optional sealing cap assemblies when centrifuging potentially hazardous samples. Automatic Rotor Identification System
Both Falcon benchtop centrifuges incorporate the well known MSE automatic rotor identification system. This important feature ensures that the centrifuge recognises the rotor in use and prevents it from being used beyond its maximum speed. Once the centrifuge has identified the rotor it can also work out the ‘g’ force at any set speed. This means that the centrifuge can convert rpm to ‘g’ and vice versa once a run has commenced.

Microprocessor Controlled Induction Drive
Brushless induction drive motors have become a familiar feature in bench top centrifuges since they were first introduced by MSE in the early 1980s. Naturally both Falcons follow this tradition. Combined with microprocessor control, each version exhibits extremely accurate run to run reproducibility – an important feature for users where accountability for analysis and production is essential.

Fully Programmable
Operation of both units is fully programmable with a memory capability of up to 49 different programs. This includes all parameters such as speed (or ‘g’ force), time, acceleration rate, brake rate and temperature control.

Safety Features
MSE have always prided themselves on customer safety and the Falcon 6/300 and 6/300R prove to be no exception. Both centrifuges have a 7mm steel guard ring so that in the unlikely event that there should be a disruption, no debris can escape from the centrifuge. An imbalance sensor aborts a run if a significant imbalance is detected and a lid interlock prevents the lid from being opened when the rotor is in motion.

Wide Range of Accessories Available
Most centrifuge work can be accomplished using the 4 x 750ml windshielded rotor with an adapter that fits into the 750ml buckets. There is a wide selection of adapters available to suit most tube sizes, but even if you have an odd sized tube, MSE can make a bespoke set of adapters to suit your specific needs.

Microtitre carriers and special buckets for 250ml tissue culture bottles are available on the 4 x 750ml non–windshielded rotor only. The 8 x 200ml swing–out rotor and various angle rotors complete the full list of accessories making this one of the most versatile benchtop centrifuges on the market.

Centrifuges - Floor Standing - Sanyo

The Cellsep 6/720R is a large capacity, refrigerated blood bank centrifuge specifically designed to meet the needs of those requiring high throughput together with sophisticated control. The Cellsep 6/720R centrifuge is well suited in a blood bank environment as well as in research laboratories where the centrifugation of large numbers of tubes may be take place.

Induction Drive with CADM
The Cellsep 6/720R centrifuge comes with a powerful, maintenance free direct drive induction motor system as standard. This provides powerful acceleration and braking to suit all applications. In conjunction with the direct drive system, the Cellsep includes CADM – Cruciform Aided Damping Mechanism. This system absorbs any vibration as the rotor passes through its critical speeds, thus ensuring smooth passage reducing the likelihood of cell re–suspension on braking. There is also an additional counterweight attached to the underside of the motor which again enhances rotor stability on braking as the rotor passes through its critical speeds, thus providing one of the smoothest blood banking centrifuges on the market.

Ramp and Dwell Facility
Using the ramp and dwell facility, the operator can program up to 8 different settings including speed, temperature, time, acceleration and brake rate in a single run. This is especially useful in sensitive separations, such as those used in blood processing for separating platelets from whole blood. For example, the blood can be spun at a low initial speed, accelerating to a higher speed for a short period of time followed by rapid braking to a pre–set speed, which can then be followed by gentle braking to avoid sample re–suspension. As it can be time consuming to enter all the parameters of each run, there is a 50 program memory so that all data can be stored and retrieved for repeated applications.

Automatic Rotor Identification System
The Cellsep 6/720R centrifuge comes as standard with ARIS (Automatic Rotor Identification System) which identifies the rotor once it starts turning. This has the dual benefit of allowing the operator to control the centrifuge in terms of ‘g’ force and has the added protection of preventing the user setting a rotor speed higher than that permitted for any rotor.

• Ramp and dwell facility with up to 8 different steps
• Status indicator provides user information
• Fully programmable operation with 50 run memory
• Standard integrator function for accurate control
• ARIS – Microprocessor control Automatic Rotor Identification System
• Brushless direct drive system
• CADM – Cruciform Aided Damping Mechanism

Reliable and Accurate
For optimal performance and long life it is important that key components operate well within their design specification. For this reason, a powerful motor provides rapid acceleration and braking well within its capabilities thus providing optimal performance and long life durability. The same can be said of the refrigeration system. A powerful compressor provides cooling via 2 cooling coils around the centrifuge bowl to give rapid and uniform cooling when required. A twin fan condenser aids heat removal from the centrifuge thus improving cooling efficiency.

An additional benefit of the induction drive system is that the motor speed, including acceleration and braking, can be controlled very accurately regardless of load. This ensures repeatability every time a programme is run for a set time. Alternatively, the operator can elect to use the standard integrator which can be set in 'g’ seconds and will govern the time of the run to give a total cumulative ‘g’ force, taking into consideration the acceleration and braking profiles.

Safety Features
MSE have always prided themselves on customer safety and the Cellsep 6/720R proves to be no exception. The microprocessor controlled self diagnostic system monitors all safety circuits including imbalance and refrigeration. Any failure results in automatic shutdown with visual and audible alarms to alert the operator.

• Printer facility plus RS485 links available
• 10 acceleration rates
• Instant reading of RCF values
• Pre–cool facility
• Over–temperature protection
• Advanced diagnostics for minimal maintenance

Wide Range of Accessories Available
The Cellsep 6/720R centrifuge has a wide range of accessories available for use in both the blood bank and the research environment. Most accessories are designed around the 6 place windshielded swing out rotor. For blood processing there is the choice of oval buckets which take a range of adaptors to suit most manufacturers’ blood bags, including SAGM and top and bottom bags. For the research environment the round sealed buckets can be supplied with a wide range of adaptors to suit most tubes. Alternatively, MSE can custom make a set of bespoke adapters to suit your specific requirements.
