Martin Christ Sr started producing centrifuges in 1948. In 1975 he founded the company Sigma Laborzentrifugen. The company culture of the family-owned business is based on flat organisational structures with short communication paths, sustainable business operations, and close networking with international representatives and dealers.

Mineral oil can be centrifugated better at higher temperatures. To be able to heat the mineral oil during centrifugation, e.g. to 55°C, the centrifuge SIGMA 6K15 with heating should be chosen.

Centrifuges - Floor Standing - Sanyo and Sigma

The Sigma 8K is the successor model of the Sigma 8K10 and in its current design in the market since 2006. The centrifuge has proven performance in blood bag centrifugation in many blood banks around the world. The users highly appreciate the excellent sedimentation results, which are enabled by an optimized drive system, ensuring low vibrations in particular during the critical slow-down phase. Furthermore quiet operation, fast cooling as well as comfortable handling and loading of the blood bag adapters are attested.


A selection of relevant features is highlighted below:

Rapid Temp
The Rapid Temp function realizes fast cooling and thus enables fast switching between temperatures for different processes. Cooling from 20 °C to 4 °C will be completed in less than 40 min. This result is valid for the interior of the bucket and use of a windshield rotor. (Without windshield the cooling is even faster, however the max. rpm are slightly lower.)
The Sigma 8K features superior cooling performance to temperatures well below 0 °C, and more importantly fulfils the specification of “Guaranteed 4 °C At Max. Speed For All Rotors” (also valid for the rotor with optional windshield).

Start Delay
Start Delay is typically used to have the centrifuge ready for use in the morning. The centrifuge can be preset to start cooling, or even the complete processing ahead of time, by simple input of the number of hh:min until start.

Ease of operation
Specific centrifugation processes can be easily programmed and saved under an intuitive name, e.g. “PRP soft” for the soft-spin processing of platelet rich plasma with preset parameters, or “Cryo” starting the production process of cryoprecipitate with preset parameters. The programs include all parameters, i.e. also individual acceleration and deceleration curves.

Code
The user-defined programs can be protected by a 4-digit code, in order to eliminate the risk of accidental changes to the process parameters. This ensures maximum process safety and user friendliness, since normal users can very conveniently select the programs, while changing of the programming can only be done with a key user code.

Blood bag adapters
An updated design of the blood bag adapters has been released in May 2010. The adapters are available in three sizes, and feature extended life-time and safe standing on a table.
