Understanding Class II Cabinets
A laboratory Class 2 cabinet, also known as a biosafety cabinet (BSC), is a specialised ventilated workspace designed to provide protection to the user, the environment, and the materials being handled. It achieves this through a combination of HEPA-filtered airflow and containment features. The cabinet draws in ambient air, which is then filtered and circulated within the workspace to create a sterile environment. Contaminated air is expelled through another HEPA filter, ensuring that hazardous particles do not escape into the laboratory. This makes Class 2 cabinets essential for safely handling pathogenic microorganisms, potentially infectious materials, and other biohazards in research, clinical, and pharmaceutical settings.
